On a stair, every tread, riser and corner is in plain view, so small layout mistakes are easy to spot. We planned the whole run at once, from the bottom step to the landing, rather than one step at a time.
Joints on the risers line up with the joints on the treads, and the cuts at the landing were balanced so neither side ends with a thin piece. The light veining gives the stair some movement without a busy pattern.
Stair edges need tile and edge trim suited to foot traffic and slip resistance, so we settle those choices before ordering material.
