Veined tile tub surround with niche
A tub-and-shower surround in large white tile with soft gray veining, laid in horizontal courses. The niche below the window is lined with small pale hexagons.
Large horizontal tile makes a tub surround look calm and wider. The challenge here was a high window in the middle of the back wall and a niche just below it, both needing to land cleanly on the tile courses.
We set a level starting course first, then set the niche height to match full tiles and worked out where the window cuts would fall. That way the window and the niche both look planned.
Inside the niche, small hexagon tile adds a change of scale without adding a new color. These photos were taken before trim and fixtures went in, which shows the layout clearly.
